What do you need to know about free software?
Sometimes you need to completely remove printer drivers, as you may be experiencing strange errors/conflicts/freezes etc.
Follow these steps to remove all traces of a printer driver quickly and cleanly.
Just get the message 'No Devices Found'. Windows 7.
11 Steps total
Step 1: Download the Kyocera Printer Deleter Utility
Visit http://www.kyoceramita.com.au/SUPPORT/Pages/LegacyUtilities.aspx and download the 'Driver Deleter' utility. The latest version at time of writing is here: http://www.kyoceramita.com.au/support/Legacy%20Utilities/Deleter.ZIP
Step 2: Unzip and Open the Application
Unzip the downloaded .zip file using your favourite program (I use 7-Zip), then open 'deleter.exe'.
Step 3: Wait for All Information to be Gathered
This step can take a few minutes, but I have found that sometimes it freezes. If it stays like this for more than 10 minutes, close the application using the red cross in top right corner.
Step 4: Delete Printer from Printer Tree
Expand the 'Printers' tree, select the printer you want to delete, then select 'Delete' from the 'Actions' menu.
Step 5: Reboot if Requested
At this point, it is sometimes requested that you reboot to remove all files. If this message appears, reboot your PC then restart the Printer Deleter utility.
Step 6: Delete Orphaned Files
Expand the 'Orphans' tree, select the 'Files' folder, then select 'Delete' from the 'Actions' menu.
From the application help file: When printers are deleted manually from your computer, printer files and registry items may be left behind. These items are displayed in the Orphans tree view, and should be deleted to avoid conflicts with new printers.
Step 7: Confirm Deletion of Orphaned Files
Select 'Yes' to confirm removal of Orphaned files.
Step 8: Delete Orphaned Registry Files
Expand the 'Orphans' tree, select the 'Registry' folder, then select 'Delete' from the 'Actions' menu.
Step 9: Confirm Deletion of Registry Files
Select 'Yes' to confirm removal of Orphaned Registry files.
Step 10: View Help File for Further Information
Select 'Help Topic' from the 'Help' menu.
Step 11: Driver Deleter Help
The help file will explain what each tree menu represents and how to remove the files.
This utility has been a life-saver over the years. If you have any type of printer related problem, I strongly suggest removing unused printer drivers and their orphaned files first, then once completed, install the latest printer driver(s) for your printer of choice.

It really is a great little utility. I'll post some more How-tos when I find the time; I've picked up loads of little gems over the years!

Thanks, I actually ran into this problem last week. I used the MMC console, added the Print Management snap-in and was able to remove it that way. But that method only works on Windows 7, on XP the situation gets stickier. Of course, this happened on XP. I will try this utility next time I run into this. Thanks again.

Hmm. This doesn't seem to see printer installed from a networked print server.

I've just tried this at work on my XP SP3 machine and can confirm it finds network printers.

Glad to see its still useful :-) - Macemolan Aug 14, 2013 at 04:11pm
Very handy utility. I just used it to remove the printers on a 2008 Terminal Server that wouldn't let me remove them via print management!

Excellent utility! Apparently, Kyocera's uninstall utility works whereas HP's fails for their own product. My HP C7250 seems to be fully installed now for the first time in 3 years. I've been 'limping' along with the generic Windows printer driver which allows most print features but none of the other Scan, OCR, etc features this printer is capable of doing. The HP Print and Scan Doctor and HP Add A Device software could not find my Network printer, HP Solution Center crashed with a message that the install was not complete. All that while my HP C7250 was listed in Windows/Devices and Printers and all my programs were able to print to it. HP's excellent Hardware deserves better Software and less ambiguous, more Clear Instructions. Thank you for the link to Kyocera's utility.
