The Compaq dc5100 Microtower was a desktop computer manufactured by Hewlett-Packard Co. The dc5100 line was marketed toward the corporate and small business market. Compaq dc5100 MT computers came equipped with a choice between the Windows XP, SuSE Linux Personal 9.2, Turbolinux 10D and FreeDOS operating. My guess would be that it has a SATA hdd,which XP does not have drivers for. Can't install Windows XP Pro to my dc5100 MT. The model # is an HP-Compaq dc5100. Try installing XP drivers in Compatibility mode and then check for the issue.

Follow the steps below to install the drivers in Windows XP SP2 Compatibility mode.

b. Right click on the setup file.

c. Go to properties.

d. Click on Compatibility mode.

e. Place a check mark in the box in front of “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and from the drop down menu choose Windows Vista SP2.

f. Place a check mark on 'Run as an Administrator' under privileges level and click on Apply and then Ok.
